History

elc International School started as elc Secondary School in 1987 with five students and six teachers including the Principal. Three of these were the children of the founders namely Dr. and Mrs. Kaloo and Dr and Mrs. Ghazalli.

The School was registered as a Secondary School, under the terms of the Education Act 1961, to prepare qualified children for the GCE 'O' Levels in May 1989. In June 1992, the school was given permission to add a Primary Division to the established Secondary Division. elc maintained two sites within the Taman Tun Dr. Ismail area, one for the Primary Division and another for the Secondary Division.

By 1995 a decision was made to bring both Primary and Secondary onto one site and in January 1997 elc relocated to its new campus in Sungai Buloh, Selangor. The official opening of the new school building and its grounds was performed by the then Minister of Education YB Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib bin Tun Hj. Abdul Razak on March 7, 1998.

Subjects

Students from Year 3-8 take subjects including Maths, English, Combined Science, Art, History, Geography, ICT, Music, Textile, Community Projects, Eco Education, and a choice between Malay, Chinese or French. Students in Year 9 have two extra subjects added to their timetable, Business Studies and D.T.

Beginning in Year 10, students pick their own subjects although they must include English and Maths. This is done in accordance with the 'O' level examinations. Available subjects include Accounting, Art, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Chinese, Design Technology, English Literature, French, Geography, History, Malay, Physical Education, Physics, Pure Maths, and Textiles. As of 2007, the school changed the examination board to Cambridge from Edexcel.

The elc community has taken part in the 2007 Relay for Life Walk-athon, Cancer Awareness Week, 30 Hour Famine, Reading Week, the Terry Fox Run and many others. A keen supporter of Cancer Awareness Week, elc has raised over Rm 10,000 each year from the community to help research in cancer.

In 2008, elc celebrated its 20th year as a school and its 10th year in its present location in Sungai Buloh. To celebrate this occasion the school held a Charity Carnival and raised just over RM 71,000 for Hospis Malaysia, the Malaysian Conservation Alliance for Tigers (MYCAT) and the Angkor Association for the Disabled.
